Am I Really Human?
How would you like to suffer
persecution like this, my friend?
Most would quickly say 'Not at all!',
It's obviously not something pleasant.
Human beings, my brother,
Treated like objects.
To say 'turned into a thing of no significance',
Is putting the matter lightly.
And you, passerby, what are you doing?
Think about it for just one moment.
Is your heart made of stone?
Who has silenced the voice of your conscience?
We are, after all,
Members of a single family.
Do you want the stream of blood-stained tears
To continue flowing like a river?
Because one day you, too, might be weak,
Also a human of no significance,
And someone with power might come,
And rip out the organs from your body,
And nothing will remain of you
Except the legacy of your deeds,
Full of cruelty and dread,
Because you were also not without fault,
Stacks of curses and ill-will
And a stream of salty tears.
But this could have been avoided,
If you wake up and do what's right.
And then the sun will shine again,
And a smile will grace your face,
And then someone else with tears of joy might say
"Thanks to people like you, I am alive."
