Before reading: The original intention of the author was literary articles, not entertainment articles and tourist articles.

Sauntering in Victoria Park Late at Night, Composed by Sang Fai IU in memory of his late wife at Fairy Flower Pavilion in Victoria Park (Translated by Peter CHUNG)
山不在高,有仙则名;
水不在深,有龙则灵;
盘古开天,女娲补石;
Whether a mountain is high doesn't matter:
A fairy living there will give its fame;
Whether a river's deep doesn't matter:
The dragon dwelling there gives it spirit.
The poem about Yellow Crane Tower
Talks about the long life of Universe
That exists ever since the ancient world
Repaired by Goddess Nuwa's molten rock.
微观宏现,包罗万象;
东山吹下,天地神气;
阳光雨露,遍地生物;
Victoria Park, although not a big one,
Captures the real charm of a leisure ground.
It shows minute details in macro view
That reflects every scene of nature's marvel.
Under gentle and mild easterly breeze,
Filled with true spirit of the earth and sky,
Nurtured by the sun, rain and morning dew,
Every life on the ground healthily grows.
万千植物,鸟语花香;
燕歌莺舞,鸽蝶齐飞;
风吹树摇,空气鲜甜;
飞禽双翅,象征天使;
With plenty plants spreading over the Park,
Birds chirrup about the fragrant flowers;
Swallows chant happily with the larks' dance;
Doves and butterflies join the gaily fly.
Sweet aroma of soil and green pasture
Covers the entire park with beauty of spring.
When the wind rushes through the trees
around
And refreshing air seals every corner,
The birds and insects all over the place
Form a choir to sing the Hymn of Heaven.
Wings of the flying creatures in the air,
Symbolize the message from God's angels
On tales told about Goddess of the Moon
Or shown in Emperor Yi shooting the Sun.
君临天下,花花世界;
蓝天蓝海,青出于蓝;
商船飞鹰,天海共游;
狮子山夫,太平山妇;
牛郎织女,越海相爱;
Taking a close look from abridge nearby,
I catch sight of the Victoria Harbour.
It's like the King of Earth from high above
Viewing a place of many different scenes.
The blue sea against the azure backdrop
Has a shade outshining its past dull hue.
Large ocean cruisers and soaring eagles
Tour side by side the waters and the sky.
The Lion Rock acting like a good husband
And Victoria Peak like a loving wife
Resemble the Cowherd and Weaving Girl
Awaiting each other across the sea.
万家灯火,满天星月;
中西建筑,如万花筒;
鬼斧神工,人间香港;
美妙繁华,冠全世界;
Millions of lamps lighting up the households
Are stars twinkling around the brilliant moon.
Buildings of Chinese and/or Western style
Come in all forms seen in kaleidoscope
With craftsmanship found in heaven only
But stand everywhere in urban Hong Kong,
Where every person and all trades prosper,
Showing proudly the very best of theirs.
The feats of this thriving metropolis
Defeat all its global rivals elsewhere.

The aged come here for morning workout
To live healthily through a hundred years;
Every child playing gaily in this park
Makes an angel running over the place.
In such fairy scene of Victoria Park,
The youth find areal paradise on earth:
A place of theirs in day time or at night,
To stay with their loved ones every day.
The Eden Garden for Adam and Eve
Now moves to the Earth for all to enjoy.
无阶级恨,无剥夺仇;
Here the poor and the rich come together,
Everyone greets one another Hello
Without hatred from their social strata,
Nor vengeance due to personal exploit.
伊甸园内,亚当夏娃;

太阳黑洞,维园全无;
Inside this Garden of Eden for us,
Adams and Eves amount to a large number:
The ones bearing the human DNA
Accumulate more than seven billion.
Here no immigration control exists
To bar any country of human's birth.
No charge is levied for any entrant;
People of any fortune are welcome.
Peace prevails everywhere inside the Park,
With every item resting in full calmness.
Dark holes that are seen on the Sun's surface
Can't be found within the Park's territory.
来往自由,像无国界;

Leisure parks exist everywhere in the world;
Facilities are more or less the same.
The twenty-eight nations of the EU,
Symbolize case of this Victoria Park:
People travel freely within the place,
Because no country boundaries exist;
Wars are never raged among the countries;
Nuclear weapons are never put to use;
No deaths are resulted from any wars;
Never comes the end of our peaceful world.

The UN often appears in my dream
Very much like our Victoria Park.
It takes after the Source of Peach Blossoms
Or looks like Eden Garden in Heaven,
For Buddha to pass away sitting there
Under the shades of a tall peepul tree.
The Ancient Master Dharma face the wall
For ten years to ponder on human life;
Zhuang Zi dreamt of a tiny butterfly
Whose entire lifetime lasted a short nap;
The green ox that often carried Laozi,
Roamed every part of the grand universe.
Confucius said upstream a large river,
"Don't time and life pass away like water?"

The initial nice heart of human kind
Has been passed down aeon after aeon;
The love existing amongst one another,
Lives until the earth and sky have vanished.
The best favor is like flowing water
Giving every nation fortune and peace;
Words printed on Charts of Future Events
Help a country achieve governance well.
滴水见阳,定海神针;
太阳月亮,自强不息;
蚀时合欢,天地安逸;
阳光雨露,万物生长;
A drop of water reflects the whole sun
Like a magic pin appeasing the sea.
The sun and moon travel across the sky
Showing strengths of theirs that would never
fail.
Eclipse and fullness always come in turn,
For the earth and the sky to stay in peace.
The sun, modest rain and the morning dew
Allows every creature on earth to grow.
人类男女,夫妻伴侣;
自然交配,子孙永远;
人人都要,自强不息;
雌雄万物,繁殖全球;
个个生物,自强不息;

The male and female of all human kind,
Form married couples that last for their lives,
To mate naturally and sustain our breed
For man to pass on till eternity.
Every creature of male or female sex
Reproduces its kind all over the world;
Every item living on this planet
Thrives steadily without becoming weak.
Renowned Scientist such as Albert Einstein,
Isaac Newton and our Sir Charles Kuen Kao,
Enquire celestial mysteries one by one
And look deep into the mystic cosmos.

Living beside the famed Victoria Park,
I keep the last words of my beloved wife,
Feeling the unique trait of the fine place,
In which country borders do not exist,
Without the threat of any nuclear war,
Nor the approach of the end of this world.
Here I always enjoy my work and stay,
Taking it as my home town all my life –
This place everyone calls their lovely home
That treats the whole world as one family.
There is Heaven up above the blue sky,
Here's Hong Kong down on earth –
Victoria Park.

The Charm of Victoria Park
Grateful to my late wife's last words, rambling in Victoria Park at night on the Mother's Day
A hill may not be tall;
With sprites, it's known to all.
A pool may not be deep;
It's live where dragons leap.
The verse of Yellow Crane
Survives the vast domain.
Pangu made Earth of yore;
Nyuwa fixed Sky with ore.
Although Vic Park is small,
Its charm does one enthrall.
Its micro-macro view
Includes all, me and you.
The East Hill does blow worth
That fills heaven and earth.
The dew lit by the sun
Shines what on land does run.
O'er flora and fauna
Birds cheep through aroma.
Swallows sing, orioles cry;
Doves and butterflies fly.
Soil with freshness will
With spring hue the park fill.
The wind does sway the trees;
How fragrant the air is!
Birds chirp and insects sing;
It's sort of heavenly thing.
The birds spread wings of love,
Like angels from above.
The moon does Chang'e please;
The sun King Archer sees.
On the bridge one looks near,
The two shores beaming dear.
The lord comes to command
This lovely thriving land.
The sky blue, the sea blue,
From azure comes the hue.
Ships below, eagles high,
They cruise the sea and sky.
Mt. Lion gives men supports;
Mt. Peace gives wives resorts.
Each household gives off light;
The sky's lit with stars bright.
The buildings east and west,
A kaleidoscope, they're blessed.
With craftsmanship divine,
Hong Kong's made a grand sign.
Lo, everything is fine;
All try to brightly shine.
It's thriving up and down,
The whole world's crown.
Those keeping fit, behold,
Will live till very old.
Sports children do beguilc,
Who like cute angels smile.
When meeting on the way,
Hello, cheers, they all say.
No class feud or caste hate,
No strife at any rate.
There they love, girls and boys;
Birth-giving gives them joys.
Adam and eve, a pair,
Are blessed without compare.
One can come here so free.
From where'er they may be.
All the parks welcome you,
No ticket, fee or due.
The land enjoys all bliss,
Calm and serene like this.
A black hole's in the sun;
The park's no black hole, none.
Parks in this or that state,
Are the same, small or great.
EU countries, twenty eight,
Have Vic Park's greeting gate.
Come or go, all are free,
Like there's no boundary.
No bloody wars to wage,
No nuke lords on the stage.
No threat of deaths will sway;
No more dooms day, no, nay.
Of UN one may dream;
Like Vic Park it does seem.
It's like peach Blossom Land
It's like Eden, so grand.
Buddha there seems to be
Beneath the Bodhi tree.
Bodhidarma, as said,
Faced the wall a decade.
Did Lush a butt'rfly seem?
Southerner had a dream.
Laocius, when he was young,
Strolled the cosmos far-flung,
Confucius to the flow
Said: Like this, all things go.
Man on earth, good at birth,
For thousands of years' mirth
Fraternity's so cast
That it will for e'er last.
Like water is Top Good,
The state will thrive, it would
With Oracle, divine:
Great perfection will shine.
Male and female, breeding all over
the world; the great Geniuses as
Einstein, Newton, Kao Kuen
Vic Park's near, in my view,
Built thirty years ago.
Her charm pearled or unpearled
Benefits the whole world.
Our world's one unified on this side or that side.
The Heaven is up there;
Hong Kong is here, so fair.
Shenghui Yao, an octogenarian, wrote this verse at night when rambling to Fairy-bloom Pavilion in Vic Park
