Woman overpowers thief with tea and sympathy
A Japanese woman and her six-month-old baby escaped unhurt from a knife-wielding thief after the mother calmed him down with a cup of tea and a chat.
一名已為人母的日本婦女以一杯茶與聊天安撫一名揮刀竊賊，該婦女及其6個月大的小嬰孩最後毫髮未傷地逃過一劫。
The 30-year-old Tokyo woman was walking along a corridor in her apartment building with her daughter when a man brandishing a knife demanded money, the Asahi newspaper said.
朝日新聞指出，這名30歲的東京婦女抱著女嬰在公寓大樓沿著走廊步行時，遇到一名揮刀要錢的男子。
When the housewife told him she had none, the man barged into her apartment. Hoping to calm him, the woman made the thief a cup of tea, whereupon he put his knife away and began a 20-minute monologue about his life.
當這名主婦告訴對方她沒有錢時，該男子竟魯莽地闖進她的公寓。為了安撫對方，這名婦女為竊賊泡了一杯茶，男子隨之把刀子放到一旁，並展開一段歷時20分鐘、有關他人生的長篇大論。
The woman then gave the man 10,000 yen and ran outside to call the police from a pay phone, the report said.
報導中指出，這名婦女後來給了這名男子1萬日圓，然後跑出家門並打公共電話報警。
Police rushed to the scene, but the thief had fled and is still being sought.
